Wildfire Zone

The University of California Wildfire Zone website aggregates information about wildfire prevention, survival and recovery. It creates awareness of wildfire risks and hazards and offers tips on how to reduce them. The website's resources are designed to be used by individuals and communities working together to reduce the risks of wildfire.

Information on the site can assist communities with collaboration, hazard identification, project development, prioritization, resource options and emergency preparedness. Fire history, vegetation and fire event information is available by zip code. In addition, website visitors can register their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses to be notified when important wildfire information becomes available.

Other features for the website include a library of downloadable publications, an interactive map that shows active fires in California and a photo gallery that records the changes in burnt areas with shots of landscapes taken over the years from the same photo points.

The Wildfire Zone website was developed by the UC Cooperative Extension office in San Diego County with special funding from the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego.
