My chickens pecked (and ruined) their eggs for a little while, but cured themselves. We never ever considered stewing them! They're pets.

Well, yes, our girls have become pets too. I don't think we could have ever killed any of them. But we still eat chicken. What is an urban farmer supposed to do?

Great story. Do you still have your girls? Any other problems they face these days? I am working on a start-up company to support small scale chicken raisers and farmers called Henlight, so I love to see such stories. Thank you.

Our girls are getting a little older now, but still healthy. They are currently all recovering from molting, and none are laying now as it is cold and almost the Winter Solstice. Some people have suggested putting a light in their coop so they are fooled into thinking Spring is here, but we will probably just let them be until they decide to start laying again - hopefully by February. We understand that we'll get less eggs for the next few years, but that's all right. They'll get to live out their natural lives in our yard.
