Thanks for capturing the "essence of Karl" in words and in the photo!
His patience, encouragement, support and optimism helped change the culture and improve adoption of new technologies by UC ANR academics and staff.
He will be missed!
But since he will work with a great partner to UC ANR, perhaps future collaborations may be feasible.....there is hope!

I was on Karl's hiring committee, and was impressed from the first by his easy manner, his knowledge of the web and willingness to learn more, and his fantastic collection of Hawaiian shirts. May the road rise up to meet you!

Karl,
I will miss you very much, both professionally and personally. I hope that we can stay in touch after you move. I would not be here if it were not for you! Thank you for everything.

Before Karl I was the so called "DANR Webmaster" running the site on a single server in a closet of the Franklin building. I was pretty over my head trying to keep up with site updates and requests. Then came Karl with these crazy ideas like the Portal, SiteBuilder, Collaborative Tools, blogs, and on, and on. Karl's done an amazing job as, and is if you weren't sure about that take a look at how things were before Karl:

My fave was the shamrock/leprechaun-themed portal for St Patty's Day. So fun to see the surreptitious sense of humor sneak in there. Karl- you will be missed! And Dave, thank-you for the fitting tribute.

Karl, you have been all that to ANR. Innovative, a great leader, a can-do guy who gets the job done and on top of it all, you have a great sense of humor. It is awesome what you have accomplished for us. You will truly be missed!

Karl,
Congratulation's on your new venture! Thanks to you and your team for making constant improvements to Site Builder as well as your initial implementation of it. We have a awesome website because of your forethought and planning of what counties need. You have always kept up with the latest and greatest in social media and this asset helps tremendously in serving the public. You will be missed!

Karl, I was just one of those faceless users out there I'm sure, but you were a help resource always to be counted on!

And thanks David Underwood for showing us this:

Karl, thanks for all the years of your pro-active assistance, and for putting together great web interface resources and a talented team. I especially appreciate the fact that you and Dave are so personable and downright funny! I have gotten many a chuckle from your creative graphics popping up here and there around my web world. I, and all of the team at the Postharvest Technology Center, will certainly miss you!

You have been really great to work with over the last few years. We could not have started the CropManage web tool without your leadership. Best of luck in your new position!

Hey Karl - It's Andra from UC CalFresh. Although I had limited experience working with you I was impressed by your collaborative spirit, friendliness and willingness to help at our conference. Good luck in your new position with UC Davis - see ya on campus!

P.S. Love your outfit in the photo - where did you find the coordinating umbrella! Gotta have it!

Karl, thanks for all of your years of helping us, back in the days of FTP without SiteBuilder! You've always been a wonderful resource.

I hope your new position is exciting and satisfying.

Cheers,
Jennifer
