This is interesting; thanks for doing this. But a couple of questions:  
 
1) How do you prepare the soil extrantant solution? Is this simply water that's been in contact with soil long enough, for example from a sample of soil shaken up with a sample of water and allowed to settle? How much soil to how much water?  
 
2) You state that soil nitrate-N concentrations from 5 to 30 ppm corresponde to 10 to 60 ppm NO3. This is confusing; the factor of 2 relationship is not consistent with the 4.43 to 1 ratio of the mass of NO3 itself to that of N only.  
 
If you can clarify these things, it would be much appreciated.

Nitrate strip first converts nitrate to nitrite and then creates color with detectors. If nitrite is also in the water, shouldn't we reduce the amount of nitrite from nitrate to get the actual amount of nitrate?
