On Tuesday, March 11, committee members gathered at West Side REC in Five Points to launch the third of nine strategic planning initiatives across the REC system. Members included a diverse group of UC Cooperative Extension advisors and specialists, growers, commodity industry representatives and researchers.
WSREC Director Bob Hutmacher and Associate Director, REC System Lisa Fischer welcomed participants and explained the charge of this important initiative. The strategic planning process is intended to be inclusive, future-oriented and utilization-focused. The committee is charged with developing a long-term and big picture plan, to include strategic directions with anticipated outcomes as well as an implementation strategy.
Some of the desired outcomes of the strategic plan include:
- Developing an organized approach to research, extension, outreach and education
- Increasing collaboration across the nine Centers in the REC system
- Engaging partners not currently engaged
- Aligning the REC's strategic plan with the UC ANR strategic plan
It was a lively and energetic meeting and the process is off to a great start. Many thanks to all members who have offered their time to assist ANR in this important effort.
