Annual reappointment is a requirement for all volunteers working with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources. Please read this update thoroughly and direct any questions regarding the appointment process to your program's Master Gardener / Master Food Preserver Coordinator, Advisor or County Director.

Reappointment starts May 12, the process for reappointment can be done in three easy steps!

Step One: Select “Complete Agreement Now” in VMS

Log into VMS, https://ucanr.org/mg
Select “Complete Agreement Now” from prompt box at top of VMS home screen

Step Two: Complete all three sections to fulfill county requirements for participation

Step Three: Verify Date Completed Displays and Print a Copy for your Records

Who must complete the reappointment process?
The Appointment process is mandatory for all UCCE Master Gardeners / Master Food Preservers, including:

Active
Limited Active
First-Year
Gold Badge
Platinum Badge

How many hours do I need to volunteer for reappointment?
The minimum hours required to remain a certified Master Gardeners / Master Food Preservers are:

25 hours - Volunteer
12 hours - Continuing education

Note: First year Master Gardeners / Master Food Preservers are required to complete a minimum of 50 volunteer hours (no continuing education requirement) before the next certification cycle.

I am unable to access "complete agreement now". I need some advice.

Hi Elliot,
If you are currently designated as a trainee in VMS the complete agreement notice will not appear until your county coordinator has switched your title to first-year master gardener.

I received a letter stating that I have not qualified but I have qualified with 26 hours of CE and 60 hours of Volunteer time.
I did my application on line and it all passed. I am confused as to why you say I do not qualify.
There were some event that I did volunteer for that I could not make it due to family emergencies and this year has been full of them unfortunately. All of these were ok'd and replacements were found.
I did notice that some of the things I volunteered for that I could not make for the reasons above still show that I volunteered for them and they will not show hours worked because I did not complete them.
I have filled in all of my hours and do so within the first day or two of the event.
Please let me know what seems to be the problem as soon as possible.

I plan to meet the minimum CE/volunteer hours by the end of June. I cannot complete the recertification until then. Is that a problem?

Hi Susanna,
Check with your program coordinator for their recommendation on meeting the minimum CE hours by June. In most cases you should still be able to complete the reappointment process before the deadline.

What is the mailing address and the deadline to pay?

This process is a slam dunk! Where do we send the check for our $6 renewal fee. Can it be paid on-line by credit card?

Hi Kristi,
The statewide office is not collecting the fees for reappointment. Please check with your county coordinator, director or advisor about where to submit payments.

When do the County Directors need to certify the MG's by?

All reappointment documentation must be submitted to your County Director no later than June 27 to allow for appointment before July 1. More information and resources are available in the documents section of CT for coordinators, advisors and directors.

If we complete the process for reappointment in May, do our June hours carry forward to next year's reappointment?

Hi Jane,

Hours for the year are calculated from June 30 through July 1 - hours that you complete now still qualify for this year.
