So there I was sitting in front of my computer thinking about what to write. I did start writing about the importance of labeling plants in the garden, especially when the edibles are mixed with non-edible plants.
Then the doorbell rang. One soft ding, then multiple dings. It can't be my mother bringing more food. They just went for a ride to SF.
It wasn't my mom. It's a friend I've never met before. She introduced herself. And I introduced myself in my limited Spanish. She was holding about a couple of dozen tomato (Solanum lycopersicum ) seedlings. My Spanish may be limited, but I speak Gardening.I know she's giving me her extra tomato seedlings.
We walked around my front yard a little bit. I learned that she has "rosal" in her garden and she lives around the corner, whereas I have "muchas plantas."
I thanked her for the tomato seedlings and dug up a "walking onion" (Allium x proliferum) and handed it to her. I promised to come over soon and check out her garden.
Meanwhile, I have tomatoes to plant and neighbors to visit and share my bounty.
Muchas Gracias, Maria!
I shared my tomato seedlings with four of my neihbors and their tomatoes are laden with fruit, more than mine. Should have a "bring your tomatoes" party this summer.
