The Eureka Granite Bay 4-H Club had the opportunity this spring to participate in a Service Project centered on youth members sewing draw-string bags for foster youth. There were thirteen Eureka Granite Bay 4-H Club boys and girls ages 5 to 14, along with several adult volunteers, that worked together to cut, pin, iron, sew, and finish each of these bags. Prior to the event, many members donated fabric. The goal was to create at least 20 bags, which they more than doubled by making 42 bags in the end! Kristen Odell, Club Leader, shared about the service project: “When a couple of the kids that had never used a sewing machine got the chance to try it – they had HUGE smiles on their faces. There was a lot of pride in creating something for other kids their age.”
4-H is making a wonderful difference in Eureka Granite Bay Club and community. In addition to sewing and service projects, Eureka Granite Bay 4-H offers a wide array of youth opportunities in small animals to community service to leadership. Youth and adults are truly partnering to facilitate positive youth development through 4-H. Placer County 4-H is excited to support and see continued development and opportunities in the Granite Bay area for youth this coming year.
Eureka Granite Bay 4-H Club and the other fourteen clubs of Placer County 4-H are truly making a difference in youth members, adult volunteers, and local communities.
