After a long hiatus, the Hi-4H program is back in San Joaquin county! Hi-4H is a county-wide project aimed at members between the ages of 13-19. The project provides the teens in our county with a chance to get to know each, share information, and pursue topics and activities that would be difficult at the club level. For example, the annual Stanislaus Snow Camp is planned and implemented by their county's Hi-4H group.
San Joaquin's first Hi-4H meeting was held on November 21st at Strike Zone in Manteca. The group met in one of the facility's conference rooms to discuss what they would like the project to be and what some of their goals and expectations are. After the business meeting was completed, the group moved to the bowling alley and enjoyed a few games together. The bowling activities were completely free for the participants thanks to a generous donation from the San Joaquin 4-H Foundation.
Moving forward, the group has decided to do a community service project and have another meeting in December. The community service project will be collecting donations for the Angel Tree toy drive. The members will be actively encouraging their clubs and communities to participate; the donations will be gathered at the County 4-H Office by December 19th and then taken to the Angel Tree by Hi-4H members. If you are interested in participating, please speak with your Community Club Leader or contact the County 4-H Office.
The next Hi-4H meeting will be on December 19th at 7:00 at the Oak Park Ice Arena in Stockton. Just like the first gathering, there will first be a business meeting where the group's future structure and activities will be discussed followed by some social time on the ice. The San Joaquin 4-H Foundation is once again donating money to cover the cost of tickets and skate rentals, so participation is free to all youth!
