- UC MEXUS announces a call for proposals to provide seed funding to teams of UC and Mexican researchers with beginning projects in basic and applied collaborative research, instructional development, and public service and education projects that apply research to public issues. The primary objective of the program is to enable the establishment of new collaborative initiatives with the potential for creating permanent ties between UC campuses and Mexican institutions that will grow and continue with the support of other institutional and extramural funds. Therefore, proposals for expansion or continuation of ongoing projects, as well as dissemination of research results of earlier work through binational conferences and publications, will be considered a lower priority. 2) USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program
Submission Due Date: March 13, 2015
Purpose: Projects will be expected to conduct training and assistance for beginning farmers and ranchers on one or more of the identified topics, making use of existing curriculum (whether USDA funded or not) or developing new curriculum where needed. Applicants should carefully consider the topics that will be addressed by the proposed project and clearly identify the topics that will be addressed in the project narrative, and why those topics are the most appropriate for the project's audience. The priority topics include: Basic livestock, forest management, and crop farming practices; Innovative farm, ranch, and private, nonindustrial forest land transfer strategies; Entrepreneurship and business training; Financial and risk management training (including the acquisition and management of agricultural credit); Natural resource management and planning; Diversification and marketing strategies; Curriculum development; Mentoring, apprenticeships, and internships; Resources and referral; Farm financial benchmarking; Assisting beginning farmers or ranchers in acquiring land from retiring farmers and ranchers; Agricultural rehabilitation and vocational training for veterans; Farm safety and awareness; and Other similar subject areas of use to beginning farmers or ranchers.

3) California Department of Pesticide Regulation – Alliance Grant Program
Concept Proposal Due Date: February 06, 2015
Purpose: Provides funding for projects that increase implementation and adoption of proven, effective integrated pest management (IPM) practices that reduce pesticide risks to human health and the environment. A key component of these projects funded is the formation of an Alliance, a team of individuals representing state, local, public, private, educational, and other stakeholders in the adoption and implementation of urban and agricultural IPM practices.
