POULTRY ALERT
Since December 2014, USDA has confirmed several cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5 in the Pacific, Central, and Mississippi flyways (or migratory bird paths). The disease has been found in wild birds, as well as in a few backyard and commercial poultry flocks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers the risk to people from these HPAI H5 infections to be low. No human cases of these HPAI H5 viruses have been detected in the United States, Canada, or internationally.
Please see the USDA Avian Influenza website which includes a number of resources including food safety and protecting backyard flocks: http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/usda/usdahome?contentidonly=true&contentid=avian_influenza.html
For additional information visit the CDFA webpage: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/animal_health/avian_influenza.html.
With fair season upon is this is an excellent time to share with 4-H exhibitors and their families positive messaging and education to help them protect their birds against disease.

My name's Simone and I'm a former 4-Her and camp staffer.
As part of my senior project for Windsor High, I'm organizing a Social Emotional Intelligence training for local teachers and coaches. A club member recently reminded me of the educating and coaching role that your leaders play, and asked if I might extend the invitation to them. I remember my time spent with these leaders, and I completely agree that this training would, should, and will apply to them. I've got the Human Accelerated Performance[HAP] organization providing a free, two day training on June 18 & 19--from nine to four at Windsor High--being taught by the organization's own director, Stan Davis. Part of the training is teaching practices that leaders can apply to improve their overall management skills, and to help them create a healthy culture among the members.I'll give a brief overview of what the SEI program focuses on generally, and then what leaders can expect to get out of this: ♢The program will assist with three relationships: The relationship toward Yourself, towards Others, and to your Environment. We help you walk through your worlds each day, without causing damage, while holding your integrity.
-------You can expect to:
Immediately improve your group management skills.
Give your members a better group experience.
Treat each member with Dignity and Respect.
Improve attendance.
Improve results and work ethic,
Empower a more focused learner and 4-Her
More time for instruction and leading!
This program is valued across professions, and across cultural lines;
with HAP clients ranging from small and specialized local companies, to the NFL, to some Fortune 500 companies, and to the occasional Native American Tribe.
