Tuesday night, September 15, 2015, at the Blue Line Arts Gallery in Roseville the Placer County 4-H Robotics Project was awarded a grant from Placer Community Foundation. Placer Community Foundation is a public charity established to assist donors in building an enduring source of charitable funds to meet the changing needs and interests of the community.
Placer County 4-H Robotics team members collaborate and build a competition-level robot that meets the challenge as defined yearly by FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The team then participates in regional competitions where they compete with and against other teams from all over the world. During the off-season when they are not building their robot, team members work on acquiring and honing valuable skills including fundraising, community outreach, public speaking, programming and project management. The team is run by the youth with support from a dedicated group of volunteer parents and mentors who help advise and support as needed.
The 4-H Youth Development Program engages youth in reaching their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development. The opportunities for youth in 4-H are limitless and 4-H is active in a majority of communities within Placer County. Youth and adults are invited to participate in the Placer County 4-H Robotics project, and other clubs and projects in Placer County as 4-H members and volunteers. Information on enrollment for the 2015-2016 year can be found on our website at http://ucanr.edu/sites/placercounty4h/Join_4-H/ “Become a Part of Placer County 4-H Strong” online enrollment is taking place now!
