Along with Dr. Bowler are three key members of the UCCE Master Gardener volunteer staff who help maintain the extremely unique South African bulb garden and many other facets of the 12.5 acre arboretum site located off Jamboree and Campus Drive.
Adjacent to the arboretum is the 202 acre San Joaquin Marsh Reserve – a vast, natural expanse which is one of the last remnants of wetlands that once covered much of Orange County's flood plain. UCI manages it and conducts pre-scheduled tours but otherwise, the marsh is closed to the public.
The UCI Arboretum avails itself to various schools on campus for studies such as common gardens, permaculture, aquaponics, and agro-ecology.
Learn all about this little-known but extremely precious resource for research and seasonal beauty right here on your university campus. An Open House at the Arboretum is coming up on Feb. 27th. Stay tuned!
