In my wanderings around the town of Davis, I stumbled across, for lack of a better term, a pocket garden located in downtown Davis. I learned that it was/is called the Lois Crowe Patio and Arboretum Terrace Garden, named for a long-term supporter of UC Davis. This garden is tucked away next door to the now-defunct Whole Foods Market in downtown Davis. The reason why I found this particular garden special, among other reasons, was because I had never noticed it, despite my having patronized Whole Foods numerous times in the past.
This garden is patterned after a Mediterranean-style garden. Beautiful, productive drought-tolerant native and Mediterranean plants surround the fountains, pergolas, seating walls, and patio which makes this space both beautiful and inviting for dining, reading, relaxing, socializing or simply being quiet. Some of the plants and trees you will find here include the Inverness white currant, Alice oakleaf hydrangea, Taiwan cherry, Marina hybrid strawberry tree, compact oregon grape, purple dome Michaelmas daisy, bush germander, Santa Barbara daisy, and dwarf oregano.
If you are interested in visiting, this garden is open for limited hours from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm (I assume that is daily; I was there on a Sunday).
