4-HERS SHOW OFF TRACTOR AND BICYCLE SKILLS AT LOCAL CONTEST
The 4-H ninth annual Ag Field Day was held on April 30, 2017. About 25 4-H members participated in 11 different contests from San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties. The members' tested their skills in tractor and bicycle safety, tractor driving, part identification, plant, bug and seed identification, and livestock knowledge.
Each event awarded medals to the 3 highest scores in three age divisions. Escalon 4-H Club members were the biggest winners taking home 53 medals.
In addition to competing in contests the members also learned how to judge and display vegetables for competition. Members were given plants from Bonnie Plant and seeds from Lockhart Seed Company and encouraged to start a horticulture project.
The event would not be possible without support from JM Equipment Company, Belkorp Ag Tractor Company, Bonnie Plant, Lockhart Seed Company, San Joaquin Public Health, California Highway Patrol, AMR Ambulance and dozens of volunteers from various sectors of the agriculture community.
Emma Borba from Escalon 4-H was the silver medalist in the senior Tractor ID contest. The tractor was provided by JM Equipment.
John Bavaro from Escalon 4-H with David Heckenlaible from JM Equipment was the gold medalist in the intermediate Tractor ID contest.
