Remember as a kid picking a strange, red fruit from a neighbor's tree around this time of year?
This hard, seemingly inedible and better suited for a decorative bowl, red fruit that – if you were the adventurous type and opened them up to eat those seeds - turned your mouth, fingers and clothing into a red - stained mess?
Well, this week on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, MG and KUCI staff host Dr. Tammy Wong spends the hour talking to Dr. John Chater from UC Riverside about Pomegranates. Dr. Chater has carried on his grandfather's legacy to promote development of many, many different varieties of this tasty and most healthful food crop here in Southern California.
Tammy and her guest cover the gamut of “all things pomegranate”: History of production in California. Best varieties for growth and taste along with how to eat them/use them in many different, delicious dishes. Upcoming (Oct '17) pomegranate tasting events. And most of all, how to grow your own so you can share them with unsuspecting kids!
