Finally! I've been looking everywhere for a good list of tree cutting blogs that won't straight out advertise their services. Thank you for doing the effort of coalescing these. I agree with most of the listed above. I've been through some of them in my backyard today and I was so happy to learn these tips.

I went to a forestry school and now work as a biologist for the governement and was wondering if this practice is bad for the forest in terms of genetics and tree grouping. It seems like if everyone is picking the "best trees" in terms of conical stature and health then we are leaving behind all of the less perfect trees in terms of genetics for timber value. It also seems to me that people don't "thin" in a way that is beneficial to the goals. I usually see the thick bushy patches of many trees growing together left untouched while singular and highly visible trees are selected out.
