Are about to harvest our very first cocoa pods after planting two years ago here on the Big Island of Hawaii. We're at 1500 feet in South Kona on a small coffee farm and conditions seem to be ideal. Use the scratch test to see if your pods are ready-underlying layer should be yellow or white no matter what color the pod is. The entire process of chocolate making is intimidating but I'm willing to try since the end product is so intoxicating. Ah, an ocean of chocolate!
