High School Seniors
If you are a high school senior and planning on attending college in the fall and majoring in agriculture or an agriculture related field please let us know. REGAN PAREIRA FUNDRAISER
Regan Pareira is a 4-H member in the Merced River 4-H Club. He was involved in an ATV accident on December 17, 2010. On Saturday February 5th Buhach Colony FFA Tractor Supply Co are holding a Tri-Trip Dinner Drive-Thru Fundraiser. The event will be held at the Atwater Tractor Supply from 11am-6pm. Tickets are available at Atwater Tractor Supply or Buhach Colony Ag Department. Camp Planning Committee
Camp is right around the corner. It is June 24-28th. The cost will be $150 per camper. If you would like to help plan camp we will be having our third planning meeting on Monday January 31, 2011 at 6:00 in the 4-H classroom. Last year's committee is encouraged to return and anyone else interested is also encouraged to come. Past staff members and campers are welcome also. Camp Staff
Applications for camp staff will be on line and in the office by the end of next week. Interviews for camp staff will be March 12th at Communications Day.
Library and Resources
Club and project leaders, we have a library available at the county office with resources that can be helpful in your projects. These resources can be checked out for your use. If you need information or have questions please check out our library.
California Focus
The registration deadline for California Focus and has been extended. The new deadline for registration is February 28, 2011. California Focus will be held June 17-21 in Sacramento. If you are interested you may download an application at www.ca4h.org/Projects/Citizenship/Focus/. If you have any questions about California Focus call me at 385-7418.
Beef Leaders
Pre-Weighing of Market Beef
We will once again be pre-weighing market beef and pulling hair follicles for potential DNA testing as a condition of entry at this year’s Fair. All market beef entries must be brought to Turlock Livestock, 10430 North Lander Avenue, Turlock, on Thursday, February 17th, between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 PM. While at the yard, we will take a certified scale weight, ear tag the animal and pull a hair sample to put on file.
INDEPENDENT MARKET BEEF EXHIBITORS MUST PROVIDE A PICTURE OF THEIR ANIMAL AND PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AT THE PRE-WEIGH ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17th.

4-H SET Workshop
The 4-H SET Workshops will be held February 5, 2011. 4-H volunteers and teen leaders are invited to attend.
- Merced County will be offering Junk Draw Robotics "Give Robots a Hand.
- Santa Cruz County is offering TechXcite: Discover Engineering "Quest for Speed".
- UC Davis is offering There's No New Water, Youth Experiences in Science, and Biosecurity in 4-H Animal Science.
The workshops are free. Registration can be done online at http://ucanr.org/set/. If you are going to any of the workshops let me know so we can set up carpools.
Communications Day
Communications Day will be held on March 12, 2011 in Snelling. This year we are considering offering a record book session where members could bring in their record book for critiquing and help. We would like to encourage all members to take advantage of this. Please be considering what type of presentation you would like to do for Communications Day.

State Leadership Support Group
Applications are open again for the State Leadership Support Group. The Support Group is made up of teen leaders who will assist in the planning of SLC by working with counties, communicating with Sectional groups and attending SLC planning activities. CA 4-H State Fashion Revue 2011
The state fashion revue would appreciate your help. Make a quilt square, a quilt top, or complete a quilt for a wounded soldier. Special size for stretchers and gurneys, approximately 45X 81 inches are needed. Red, white and blue fabrics are preferred. 12 ½ by 12 ½ can be combined with other squares made by other groups. Send or bring your squares, quilt tops or quilts to State Fashion Revue at Olson Hall, UC Davis during State Field Day on May 28, 2011.
Emerald Star and All Star Projects
Applications for All Star are due in January. If you are interested in doing a project please get your applications in. If you want to do a project and are not sure what to do please contact me at the 4-H office at 385-7418 and I will be happy to help you with ideas for projects. If you are interested in doing an Emerald Star project applications are due at anytime. Just give yourself enough time to complete your project. Applications can be found on the county 4-H website at merced4h@ucdavis.edu under resources and downloads or are available in the 4-H office.
