What a great photo Rachel took of the Flameskimmer. Now I know the name of those bright orange dragonflies that live by my large pond. I enjoyed the colorful paintings done by the Travis Youth Center kids. Great Job! I am so glad others think bugs are fun, interesting and beneficial.

Thank you for your comment. These flameskimmers (Libellula saturata) are beautiful. I'm glad to see that fairs and festivals are focusing on insects!

Here's a close-up of a flameskimmer that I took in my backyard: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pho-tog/6002158988/in/set-72157627032231051

I've seen these flameskimmers in my yard and wondered what they were called. I got a good picture of one; he was patient enough to sit and wait while I ran and got my camera!! Your lovely insect photos have inspired me to try to photograph insects myself. It's not easy.
