What do low light symptoms look like? When I walk thru berry fields in the Pajaro Valley, they seem like very dark places to me (being a SJV boy).

Maxwell- Low light symptoms are the leaves turning yellow (too little light for the chlorophyll) and if prolonged actually die. It's something one sees on the inside of a raspberry hedgerow all the time if not properly managed. Yes, it is probably darker in a Pajaro Valley tunnel than it is in the sun splashed SJV, but then again consider that raspberries originally grew at the edges of clearings in forests, of which the tunnels are a rather decent imitation.

I had see this symptoms in specific raspberry var. where the plastic is higher!
My experience with this symptoms is variety dependent...some show a lot others bit of .
Start increase the amount of macros such as Mg, Ca as well as micros; Mn, Fe..this have had help to ameliorate the symptoms, but not eradicate...my recommendation: know your varieties mineral requirement so you can be proactive...

I saw the symptoms also in central Mexico areas, specially in sandy soils, where CIC is low between 5 to 11. Level of deficiencies is regard to variety.According to somes leaf test and measurEments realized could be Mg deficiencies. Regards

Hello Omar,
Thanks for your input! I have a post on this blog concerning magnesium deficiency on raspberry, it seems in that case it was a high soil pH which was limiting availability of that nutrient. Do the symptoms you are seeing look much like the ones in this post? Yes, Mg on a numerical basis seems lower in the soil samples in this post and perhaps a case could be made for the tissues as well, but it did stand statistical scrutiny.
Mark
