Food waste in current food system is estimated to be about 40%. Reducing that to even 20% could feed the expanding population. The quest for endless higher production is causing unnecessary stress on our environment.  
 
Moreover, most modern economists believe that global hunger is primarily due to poverty NOT insufficient food production.
