Lynn M. Sosnoskie, Ph.D.

This is the UCCE website for Lynn Sosnoskie, Agronomy and Weed Science Advisor for Merced and Madera Counties.

Background and Education: Lynn grew up in a small coal mining town in central Pennsylvania. She obtained a B.S.  in Biology from Lebanon Valley College, an M.S. in plant pathology from the University of Delaware, and a Ph.D. in weed science from Ohio State. After completing her PhD., Lynn was a post-doc at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a research scientist at the University of Georgia – Tifton, a project scientist at the University of California – Davis, and research faculty at the Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center – Wenatchee.

Training and Research Interests: Lynn is formally trained as a weed scientist and is interested in addressing weed control issues in agronomic crops including:

• Herbicide resistant weeds 
• The preservation of effective chemical control strategies
• Robotic weed control 
• The effects of drought on the composition and management weed communities 
• Perennial weed control in fallow 
• The use of crop rotations to maximize weed control 

Lynn is also interested in evaluating crop responses to temperature, water availability, and water quality. Because of her training in plant pathology, she hopes to work with fellow UC scientists to better understand the epidemiology and management of important agronomic diseases, such as Fusarium Race 4 in cotton. She expects to be engaged in collaborative efforts to address a variety of crop issues such as soil salinity and fertility management over the coming years.
