Pest of the Month - White powdery mildew on oak trees

White powdery mildew can attack the leaves of a variety of plants and ornamentals.  A different fungus species can occur on oak trees, exhibiting a velvety appearance on the leaves which penetrates to the stem.  Oaks prefer wet winters and dry summers.  Do not water oak trees in summer as it encourages new growth which can be susceptible to the fungus.  Click here for more information.
