School and Demonstration Gardens

A school garden provides teaching opportunities to incorporate hands-on activities for a diversity of interdisciplinary, standards-based lessons. The garden engages students by providing a dynamic environment to observe, discover, experiment, nurture, and learn.

Through the garden,

  • students gain an understanding of ecosystems
  • appreciation for food origins
  • and knowledge of plant and animal life cycles.

To learn how you can initiate a school garden read the following documents.

The Demonstration Garden

The Tuolumne Master Gardeners maintain a demonstration garden at 251 South Barretta Street in Sonora. We host public tour days and family days. If you're interested in finding out about the next tour, please reach out to our Master Gardeners!
