Congratulations and welcome to the newest graduates with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden California Naturalist course. Participants came from all backgrounds, from newcomers to the region, to trained scientists who want to fill 'gaps' in their overall understanding. Field trips included a visit to the Arroyo Hondo Preserve and the Sedgwick Reserve, the latter managed by the University of California Natural Reserve System. The course also serves as the core curriculum for the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and Sedgwick Reserve docent training. Capstone presentations included oak leaf display boxes, a naturalist walk, self-guided brochures, resource guides, and more!

In regional parks and other open spaces, hikers may encounter crowds of a different sort – cattle grazing with their calves. A 1,200-pound cow blocking the path can be daunting. UC Agriculture & Natural Resources put together a series of short videos on moooving safely in bovine country and avoiding stampedes on park trails. They are informative (and quite punny).
