This workshop will help greenhouse and nursery growers evaluate their water quality management practices and implement an IPM program.

It will also help growers in Region 3 comply with ag waiver requirements for developing and updating their farm water quality plans by October 1.  

CEUs approved: DPR (2.5 "other") and CCA (2.5 soil/water management and 1.5 IPM)

4 ag waiver hours requested from the Los Angeles Regional Water Board for growers in Region 4.

Workshop Objectives and Resources

The objectives of this workshop are to help growers

1. Conduct a self-audit of current water quality management practices
2. Develop a farm water quality plan
3. Implement an IPM program to reduce impacts on water quality

In addition, irrigation, nutrient, and pesticide BMPs and sediment/erosion control for production and non-production areas in greenhouses and nurseries will be reviewed.

Resources:
The environmental audit in the Greenhouse and Nursery Management Practices to Protect Water Quality manual will be used as an example for developing and conducting a self-assessment of your water quality practices.

Using the UC Farm Water Quality Plan and the UC Checklist for Assessing and Mitigating Runoff in Greenhouse and Nurseries as examples, the components of a farm water quality plan will be described.

Please pre-register for this workshop. The fee for pre-registered participants is $25.00 per person (until August 30, 2012) and includes a delicious barbeque.

Registration is payable by cash or check to the “Santa Barbara County Flower and Nursery Growers Association” at the door on the day of the workshop. No-shows will be billed $35.00.

After August 30, 2012 and walk-in registration will be $35.00 per person, contingent on available seating. Handouts and lunch cannot be guaranteed for walk-ins.
