Global Food Systems Forum attracts international audience

People from more than 350 locations, on every continent except Antarctica, have registered to watch the UC Global Food Systems Forum webcast on April 9.

Interested people in Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, India, Italy, Kenya, Morocco, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Venezuela and states throughout the U.S., have signed up to be part of this global conversation and the audience continues to grow.

Not on Twitter? There’s still time

At the ANR Statewide Conference, we will be using Twitter for a variety of different purposes. On Tuesday, April 9 during the Global Food Systems Forum, the world will be live tweeting using (hashtag)#Food2025. Questions, answers and conversations on this critical topic will abound.

In addition, throughout the conference we will also be using (hashtag)#ucanr2013 to broadcast basic information for conference participants such as lost and found items, resource room opportunities, and last-minute scheduling changes.

UC Global Food Systems Forum to address challenges of feeding the world

April 9 event to be webcast live

The University of California, through its Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will convene some of the world’s leading experts April 9 at the Global Food Systems Forum to address how to sustainably feed 8 billion people by 2025.

The discussion will bring together people from a dynamic range of disciplines, including farmers, researchers, policymakers, economists, environmentalists and geopolitical experts and we invite you to view the event live by webcast and to join the Twitter conversation at #Food2025.

The daylong forum will feature two moderated panels and keynote addresses by Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and president of the Mary Robinson Foundation — Climate Justice, and Wes Jackson, founder and president of The Land Institute.

Michael Specter, global issues writer for The New Yorker magazine, will moderate the first panel, which will focus on the geopolitical, ethical, economic, environmental and technical challenges facing food systems from a global perspective. Award-winning author and journalist Mark Arax will moderate the second panel, which will address the implications, responsibilities and innovative opportunities from a California perspective.

Join the #Food2025 conversation on Twitter

Everyone is welcome to join the Twitter conversation on issues that will be discussed at the April 9 Global Food Systems Forum. The topic for next week's Twitter discussion (March 24-30) is environmental pressures facing our global food systems and potential solutions. To participate in the Twitter discussion, use (hashtag)#Food2025.

Seats remain for preconference tours

Seats are rapidly filling for our preconference tours, but a few are still available on Tour #1 of Coachella Valley and Tour #3 of San Diego County. In addition, a couple of seats have opened up on Tour #2 of urban San Bernardino and Orange counties.

All three tours are described at http://ucanr.edu/sites/statewideconference2013/Program/Tours_-_April_8. If you’ve already registered for the conference and would like to add a Monday tour, email your request for a tour to anrprogramsupport@ucanr.edu.

Final call for posters

If you would like to display a poster for the conference and haven’t yet submitted a request, please go to https://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=9900 and submit your request by midnight on Friday, March 22.

Nearly 500 people have registered for the ANR Statewide Conference April 9-11. Registration will be open until the conference begins, but those who register after March 25 will be accepted as space permits.

VP Barbara Allen-Diaz wants all ANR members, and that includes you, to attend the ANR Statewide Conference in April. Visit http://ucanr.edu/sites/statewideconference2013, and click on the 2-minute video to hear her discuss the exciting UC Global Food Systems Forum as well as the numerous ANR activities planned at the conference.
 
More than 400 people have already registered for the ANR Statewide Conference on April 9-11. If you haven’t made hotel reservations for the conference, ANR has extended its block of discounted rooms at the DoubleTree by Hilton Ontario until tomorrow, March 15.
 
We have also begun posting on the Food 2025 blog. The blog features papers, videos and presentations from panelists and speakers who will participate in the Global Food Systems Forum. Strategic Initiative leaders encourage you to attend the 2013 ANR Statewide Conference

Dear Colleagues,

As the Strategic Initiative leaders, we encourage you to attend the 2013 ANR Statewide Conference, which serves as the Initiative meetings for this year. We're excited about this opportunity to convene all of the Initiatives and promote cross-initiative discussions and partnerships. 

Join your colleagues for three days of lively discussions about ANR’s role in identifying and addressing challenges in agriculture and in natural and human resources with an eye to how our Strategic Vision, through the Initiatives, shapes this important work. Take a look at the science sessions, which have been updated on the agenda.

Many program teams and workgroups will be meeting during the conference as well. Please contact the Program Support Unit soon if you wish to reserve space during the conference for your group to meet.

If you have not already signed up, registration remains open at 2013 ANR Statewide Conference. The special room rate at the conference hotel expires this Friday, March 8, so don't delay in making your reservations.
