ANR Update

Beware of phishing/spam email

Dear Colleagues,

We have seen an increase in the number of spoofed emails, a form of phishing/spam email.

Email spoofing is the forgery of an email so that the message appears to have originated from someone or somewhere other than the actual source.

The goal here is to have the employee (You) assist the supervisor purchase some gift cards. The email is structured in a sense that indicates the supervisor is not available, there is a certain sense of urgency and validity, and it is sent from a mobile device.

There are also other clues within the email. Even though the name of the supervisor is correct, the email address is not and is not part of the organization. Scratching the back of the card to get the code doesn't make sense, especially if you are planning to give it to your clients, customers, etc.

The best thing to do with these types of phishing emails is simply to call/text your supervisor's known cell phone number and confirm before making a purchase.

Below are real spoofing emails with clues that they are phishing emails highlighted in red.

Subject: RE: OFFICE REQUEST/GIFT CARD PURCHASE

I need you to pick up 3 Google Play Gift Card in $500 increment each. Its alright if you can purchase the gift cards from Walmart or any Stores around. Once you have been able to get them from the store, scratch-off the back code and then attach pictures of each cards and email them back to me with the purchase receipt. Email me back when you are on your way to the store

Thanks

Staff-performance appraisal webinars offered in March

The annual performance appraisal is an opportunity for staff and supervisors to recognize accomplishments, identify opportunities to build skills, and align individual efforts to high-level unit and division goals. Take time in the next month to review and reflect on the past year, and plan your future work with your supervisor.

The staff performance review period runs from April 1, 2018, through March 31, 2019. An annual appraisal should be completed for all ANR staff employees, including represented and non-represented, career and contract employees with at least six months of service as of March 31, 2019.

This year ANR Human Resources has modified the Employee Performance Appraisal Form to align with the UC system-wide core competencies and to prepare supervisors and employees for the future online appraisal process. Please plan to attend one of the upcoming webinars to learn more.

Important change to access online ANR systems Feb. 20

As of Feb. 20, 2019, all ANR personnel will need to use a new method to access ANR systems. Please note that this is a separate change from enrollment in Duo.

What is changing?

UC ANR has implemented a new login system that relies on information from UCPath. In beta testing since mid-2018, this new login system is referred to as Single Sign On or SSO. The goal of SSO is to make it easy for UC ANR personnel to access any web system needed for day-to-day work, such as the ANR Portal, Zoom, Project Board and the coming UCPath tools.

What you need to do

The new SSO system uses information from the ANR directory, so you don't need to enroll in anything to use it. The only requirement is that you reset your password in the ANR Portal one time before using SSO to log in.

SSO information and assistance

We've set up a webpage with more information about SSO, including instructions for resetting your password.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us at help@ucanr.edu or 530-750-1212.

ANR provides ESRI software and licenses to staff and academics

Like last year, UC ANR will provide ESRI (ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online) software and licenses to UC ANR staff and academics at no cost in the coming year. Agricultural Experiment Station faculty who are affiliated with UC ANR will be eligible for one ESRI license through ANR. To access ESRI software and tools, please complete the following form.

AES staff, faculty and graduate students unaffiliated with UC ANR will not be eligible for these ANR software and licenses; those affiliated with UC Davis will need to go through software.ucdavis.edu to access these tools.

Additionally, this year members of UC ANR are eligible for free licenses for ENVI remote-sensing software, and greatly discounted licenses for Pix4D drone image processing software.  For these applications, please send a request to IGIS at igis@ucanr.edu.
