Yvonne Savio is the Common Ground Garden Program Manager, UCCE MG Program, Los Angeles County. Did you know? Yvonne grew up on a ¾-acre hillside city lot in Pasadena, growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers year-round in manure-and compost-amended gardens. Since 1984, Yvonne has contributed weekly gardening columns, features, and photographs to California and national newspapers, magazines, journals, and newsletters. In 1994, she revitalized the UCCE MG Program in Los Angeles County. She edited the third edition of Children's Gardens: A Field Guide for Teachers, Parents, and Volunteers. As Common Ground Garden Program Manager, she oversees the MG Program, Fresh From the Garden Program, School Garden Program, and Community Garden Program, all working primarily with low-income county residents. She was recently awarded as 2010 Horticulturist of the Year by the Southern California Horticultural Society.
