Master Gardeners offer free classes most Saturdays of the year. No advance registration is needed.

9/09 Seasonal Color with California Bulbs - Instructor: Catherine Mone

California’s landscapes are graced by seasonal bulbs, corms, and rhizomes that make up much of our region/s wildflower beauty. Come learn to identify these plants, understand their growth and propagation needs and get tips for success in your home garden.

9/09 Saturdays with Barry - Instructor: Barry Wold

A lot of things are happening in the late summer vegetable garden. Barry will explain various planting, thinning, and pest control methods as well as needs for the success of your vegetable garden during each month’s demonstration.

9am – 11am/Free Class Sherwood Demonstration Garden, 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville

Note: $2 parking fee for all days has gone into effect on campus.


9/13 California Native Oaks - Instructor: Heidi Napier

Learn how to identify oaks, prune them, landscape around them. Recognize diseases, and preserve our remaining native oaks. These trees have been in California for thousands of years, but human development and agriculture have decimated once vast stands of these trees. Native Oaks can add to the value of your property and decrease your air conditioning bills. Let’s keep them alive!

9/16 Putting your Garden to Bed - Instructors: Cheryl Turner and Cindy Young

The extra effort you put into your garden areas this fall will pay big dividends next year. MGs will discuss yard and garden clean up, cool season planting, tool sharpening/cleaning, composting/mulching, and pruning. Learn why you should collect those valuable fall leaves. Note: the class will run till 4pm.

9/23 What to Plant After Tree Loss - Instructors: Sarah Robinson 

El Dorado County is one of 10 California counties affected by massive tree die off due to bark beetles. Now that the trees are gone, homeowners are wondering what to plant next and should they even replant conifers. Master Gardeners will present next steps and ideas that individuals can take on their property.

9am – noon/Free Class Government Center Hearing Room, Bldg C. 2850 Fairlane Court, Placerville
