  Description:  Evergreen group of shrubs native to California.  Most have smooth mahogany to purple trunks and red stems with green/grey foliage.

  Water:    Drought tolerant; susceptible to overwatering
  
  Soil:       Tolerates most soils; prefer rocky or sandy soils with good drainage
  
  Habit and form:    Plants vary from creeping ground covers (on the coast - 2 inches high) to tree-like shrubs (interior to 20 feet tall)
