    Description:  Evergreen group of shrubs native to California.  Most have smooth mahogany to purple trunks and red stems with green/grey foliage.          

     

     

    Sun:       Full to part sun

    Water:    Drought tolerant; susceptible to overwatering

    Soil:       Tolerates most soils; prefer rocky or sandy soils with good drainage

    Habit and form:    Plants vary from creeping ground covers (on the coast - 2 inches high) to tree-like shrubs (interior to 20 feet tall)

    Flower type:    Most have small, urn-shaped flowers

    Flower color & bloom season:    Varies from pink to white

    Uses, if any, for plant and/or flowers:    Attractive to bees, butterflies and birds; berries attract birds
