County Ambassador Application

Being a part of the County Ambassador Program is the highest rank that a 4-H member can achieve at the county level. The goal of the Nevada County 4-H County Ambassador Program is to recognize the achievements of youth and to offer additional resources and significant opportunities for leadership roles.

The 4-H County Ambassadors programs are a source of leadership development. The best and brightest 4-Hers are selected to represent their county. These are members who have excelled in their own projects, have served their county program in other ways, and have been deemed worthy to represent their fellow 4-Hers. The 4-H County Ambassadors rank recognizes members’ leadership abilities, but it is also a working honor. Besides their regular projects and activities, 4-H Ambassadors are required to assist with county events, develop a plan of action, and perform service projects.

Annual Plan of Action

County Ambassadors develop an annual Plan of Action that includes choosing and developing three leadership competencies and completing one service learning project. County Ambassadors choose from six leadership competencies: 

Advise, Advocate, Mentor, Plan, Promote, Teach

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an active participant, providing a link between 4-H members, clubs, and council.
  • Represent 4-H at various levels, not only within their club, but at county, sectional, and state.
  • Attend state leadership conference.
  • Be prepared to install officers, and be integral part of county officer’s training event.
  • Complete all pre and post work to allow for hosting Nevada County Achievement Event.
  • Be willing and able to assist at county presentation day, and other county events as needed.
  • Serve as a positive role model; be receptive to new ideas and challenges and promote 4-H, setting a good example for younger members.
  • Represent 4-H to outside organizations when called upon.
  • View the County Ambassador rank, not as an award, but as a new responsibility and learning experience.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be between 14 – 18 years old, by appointment date (July, 2020) and meet the 4-H membership requirements for the length of the term of service, (July, 2020 - June, 2021)
  • Applicant must have completed at least one year of membership in 4-H prior to the year of application. Membership does not have to be the most recent consecutive year.
  • Applicant must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. To ensure that the position of County Ambassador is open to 4-H members in all program delivery modes (community club, after-school club, SPIN club, summer camp, 4-H teen teachers, etc.), a member must document the following:

Achievement of a Gold Star Rank as evidenced by the signed and dated Star Rank Chart or other written documentation that verifies you have achieved this rank.

OR all of the following:

  1. Mastery of a project as demonstrated by at least 6 hours of instruction, documented by a statement of skills.
  2. 40 hours of significant leadership roles, either inside or outside of 4-H (this can be club leadership, school leadership, outside organizations or other).
  3. 30 hours of citizenship and/or community service, either inside or outside of 4-H.
  4. 10 public speaking engagements, at least 2 of which must have been given at a 4-H event (this means a prepared or spontaneous talk/speech and can be at club, countywide, school or other). 
  5. Demonstrate involvement in 4-H as evidenced by activities in the areas of: project skill activities, 4-H events attended, and honors/recognition. Definitions for these three categories can be found HERE, on pages 10-16. Completing a Personal Development Report in the 4-H Record Book is not an application requirement for County Ambassador.
