1:00 pm Water Quality Regulatory Picture Update: Doug Parker

What is happening with the Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program?  What is CV-Salts? Will there be a statewide nitrogen reporting requirement?  Answers to these question and more will be presented.

1:45 pm Water Reuse in California – Regulatory and Management Issues: Jodi Cassell

In 2003, the California Water Recycling Task Force issued a final report to the Legislature that estimated that California could reuse up to 1.5 million acre-feet of water per year, meeting approximately 30% of household demand (including predicted population growth).  While the state is encouraging reuse, regulatory requirements differ between basins and may discourage reuse.  Speakers in this session will discuss regulatory and other issues that confound reuse in California, to be followed by an open forum to brainstorm and discuss ways that Agriculture and Natural resources could address this issue.

3:00 pm Break

3:30 pm Position Needs Across Program Teams: Janet Hartin

A short discussion of position ideas brought up in the previous days Environmental Horticulture Program Team meeting, as well as preliminary thoughts on potential positions from the Water Program Team.

This session will explore groundwater banking using agricultural land through a short presentation summarizing the issue and its complexities. The remainder of the session will consist of an open discussion period designed to encourage greater awareness of the agronomic, hydrologic and policy issues related to agricultural groundwater banking.
