I am interested in the molecular genetics at the interface of plant-insect-pathogen interactions and the associated small RNA-epigenetic mechanisms that shape these interactions. We use the Next Generation Sequencing as one of the technologies to study the flow of genetic information via these interactions.
PhD work (Plant functional Genomics)
TIR domain-containing proteins encoded in the Arabidopsis genome include the TIR-NBS (TN) and TIR-X (TX) families. We investigated the functional role of these proteins in plant basal defense mechanisms through the use of localization studies and protein interaction studies. Further, we used the functional genomics approaches to understand their role by creating gain-of function transgenics in Arabidopsis and heterologous benthamiana systems.
Masters, Plant Pathology
We have screening for natural resistance variation among different ecotypes of Vigna radiata (Mung bean) against Mungbean yellow mosaic virus, root rot, anthracnose and leaf crinkle virus. We have shown that there is a strong correlation between Whitefly incidence and the MYMV along with the identification of resistance ecotypes.
