Research Statement:

I have been working on a variety of projects related to Sudden Oak Death (SOD) primarily in the Big Sur area since the summer of 2000. Primary duties for the Rizzo Lab include coordinating and facilitating field work, and collaborating with agencies, stakeholders and community members. I helped set up a vast network of ecological monitoring plots throughout the Big Sur area and am working to monitor changes in the forest brought about by SOD and the recent 2008 wildfires <read more>. Working hard to integrate into the local community where I live and work, to deliver accurate, up-to-date, information to the general public who reside in this rural area, I am a First Responder and Fire Fighter for the Mid-Coast Volunteer Fire Brigade and regularly attend meetings for the Monterey Fire Safe Council.

My professional interests range from ornithology, botany, pathology, landscape ecology, historical landscape uses and changes and community outreach. I believe in involving and delivering accurate information to the community in which you are studying since they who live there are the real stewards of the land.

Originally from Massachusetts I graduated from Assumption College in 1997 with and Environmental Science degree and a double minor in Biology and Chemistry. I have held a wide variety of jobs ranging from chemistry, limnology, entomology, ecology, and wildlife biology. Other interests include rural living, backpacking, swimming, gardening and traveling.
