I joined the Rizzo lab in 2012 as a PhD student in the UC Davis Plant Pathology department. My current research is focused on the ecology of invasive Phytophthora spp. in coastal Californian forests. Specifically, I am investigating a change in the pathogen community that was detected following fires that burned some of our Big Sur plots in 2008. Projects include monitoring of Phytophthora species occurring in soil and in vitro investigation of pathogenicity, survival and interactions of Phytophthora nemorosa, pseudosyringae and ramorum. Other interests of mine include fungal evolution and biodiversity, and the ecology and systematics of yeasts.
