May 15, 2015

Congratulations to Dr. Anil Shrestha, Professor of Plant Science at California State University, Fresno, who received not one but TWO awards:

  • 2015 Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching—the highest faculty honor at Fresno State
  • 2014-2015 Outstanding Advisor Award
Dr. Anil Shrestha is the recipient of the 2015 Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching

From the Fresno State News website…
Dr. Anil Shrestha (Plant Science) has been at Fresno State since 2008. A teacher who appreciates the value of hands-on learning, he engages and attracts students to agriculture, then retains them with humor and encouragement. His passion for student's experiences extends outside the classroom and into the lives of his students. He encourages all his students to take advantage of workshops, writing labs and programs on campus. He also helps students apply for scholarships and internships.

“Previous to Anil coming to Fresno State, the college [Fresno State] was rarely represented at the California Weed Science Society or other professional weed science societies. Anil has both his undergraduate and graduate students give presentations at professional societies in California and at national weed science societies. Currently Fresno State students are winning or represented at many of the student contests in both the oral and poster contests in weed science” says Steve Wright, UC Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor in Tulare-Kings counties.

Shrestha has contributed two chapters to the book “Principles of Weed Control in California,” which is used as a textbook in most California educational institutions offering a course in weed science.

“His talent for both inspiring and involving his students in his research is to be commended” says Wright.
