Located 60 miles northeast of Sacramento in Browns Valley, the Sierra Foothill Research & Extension Center (SFREC) is one of nine centers under the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Our Center is designed to provide land and resources for researchers, as well as lead and facilitate extension and education programs within the broader California agricultural and natural resource learning community.
On this site you will find information for researchers interested in initiating projects at the Center. Extension materials are offered relating to rangeland management, beef cattle production, as well as other agriculture resources these working landscapes support.
The Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center encourages educators, local producer groups and other organizations interested in agricultural and natural resource issues to contact us if you are interested in working with the University of California to design a custom learning or information exchange program.
What resources can SFREC bring to the community? With a vast and diverse ranch that includes 5,000 acres of dryland and irrigated pasture, oak woodlands and open grasslands, riparian habitat, over a mile of Yuba River frontage, and conference room facilities located on a working cattle ranch, the possibilities are endless!
