A Hands On Workshop-IVOF&G -October 21, 2017

Title of Event: Composting for Great Soil and Crops

The Program

Great organic gardens depend on great soil.  In this workshop you will discover the physical and biological properties of soil, and most importantly how to improve soil structure by increasing the soil organic matter.  Learn the many ways to turn scraps from your kitchen and waste from your garden into the perfect and free soil amendment. The class will cover the pros and cons of the various composting methods, and how to trouble shoot each of them.

Soil building topics will also include: vermicomposting, sheet mulching, and cover cropping.

After learning about the many ways to compost, and depending on the weather, we will head out to the garden for a demonstration, or learn more about composting methods in the classroom.
