Summer Pruning to Keep Fruit Trees Small
Learn how to keep your fruit trees small so you can easily care for them and harvest them without climbing a ladder. Root stock will only dwarf them a bit, so if you really want to keep them smaller, you need to summer prune. You can see small fruit trees at Our Garden. They are all semi-dwarf, but are kept at only about 5-6 ft. tall.
Our Garden is a public demonstration garden of the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County, located in Walnut Creek at the corner of North Wiget Lane and Shadelands Drive, just off Ygnacio Valley Road. From April through October, weekly speakers present a variety of information on edibles gardening and home gardening in general.
UC Master Gardeners of Contra Costa maintain the garden and interface with the general public. We encourage you to bring in your home and garden questions and talk with a UC Master Gardener at the Ask a Master Gardener Table (9 am to Noon)!
