Rangeland Tour Focuses On Importance and Management of Vernal Pools
California Rangeland Conservation Coalition (CRCC) in Collaboration with UCANR are putting together a tour focused on discussing and showcasing vernal pool ecosystems and their management. The organizers of this tour include UC Merced, NRCS and Merced Farm Bureau. The central theme of the tour is how rangeland stewardship on working rangelands influences persistence of sensitive vernal pool species. Speakers will include Jaymee Marty, who will discuss “How Grazing Impacts Vernal Pool Species”; Monique Kolster will share her experience managing UC Merced’s Vernal Pool and Grassland Reserve; NRCS biologist will discuss easement planning to protect habitat for vernal pool aquatic life and the rancher will share his management strategies to conserve these sensitive ecosystems.
The tour will be held on April 27, 2017, starting at 10am until 2pm at Chance Ranch (just east of Snelling). Detailed directions will be provided later.
