As EH Advisor in San Joaquin County, I strongly support this position. All Advisors in the Northern California region need support for research and outreach activities associated with IPM and would benefit greatly from this position, especially in the wake of Mary Lou Flint's impending retirement.

Urban IPM is a programmatic area long neglected by UCCE. This position will be well supported by the pest management professional industry and well-connected to the ANR network through the existing Urban IPM Advisor in the SF Bay Area (me) and a pending new hire Urban IPM Advisor in southern CA. Collaborative research will be supported by UC Berkeley's Urban Pest Management Center, UC Riverside's Urban Pest Management Program, UC IPM's Urban and Community Work Group, and others in this fast-moving new CE area. Extramural support from the Department of Pesticide Regulation, the EPA, regional water boards, the Structural Pest Control Board, and other groups present opportunities for a well-funded program.

With ever-expanding urban area in California, continuing appearance of invasive pests, and increased environmental / human health concerns, the role of urban IPM advisor in these highly-populated areas is critical. I strongly support this position.
