This position is located in San Jose, CA.

The Specialist will work closely with project directors at UCCE Santa Clara County to lead research and extension work related to food safety practices on small farms, beginning farmer education, and Asian vegetable production.  The Specialist is expected to work on all phases of research and extension with the project director with the bulk of project development, extension, and field work being run out of UCCE Santa Clara County in San Jose, CA and Santa Clara County Agriculture Department in San Martin, CA.  As such the Specialist will maintain daily contact with the UCCE Santa Clara County Small Farms Advisor as well as other potential UCCE Santa Clara County office and field support staff that may be used in project implementation. 

The Specialist position is a non-career track position.  The position is a one-year renewable term appointment (up to two years total) with a merit cycle every two years.  The performance in the position will be evaluated annually.  The position will be extended based on performance and availability of funding.

All UC ANR Specialist Series are responsible for performance in the areas of 1) specialized research, 2) professional competence and activity, and 3) if appropriate, University and/or public service. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An earned Masters degree in agricultural sciences (agronomy, horticulture, plant sciences, or related field); Strong statistical and quantitative skills and experience applying these skills to diverse types of ecological data sets; Experience publishing peer-reviewed research in high impact journals; Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; Skills to communicate and extend technical information to diverse audiences, especially in Cantonese; Experience managing field research and leading field crews in research implementation; Ability to lead field work under remote field conditions.
