Sierra Nevada Tree Mortality Data Network Workshop
March 10, 2020 9 am –5 pm
US Forest Service Wildfire Training Center, McClellan, CA
- Share latest results on live and dead trees, tree fall rates, fuels, regeneration, and postmortality management;
- Discuss frameworks for incorporating data into forest management planning and policy
The Tree Mortality Data Collection Network was established to bring together scientists and agencies who are conducting field and remote-sensing studies across the Sierra Nevada. In this third workshop we want to tackle the general question of "What now?". Feedback from previous editions of this meeting and recent outreach activities suggest the need to discuss two critical aspects linked to dead trees: 1) Fuel loads, temporal dynamics, flammability and risks; 2) Post-disturbance management: life after drought and death, reforestation and how to deal with tree species current and future needs. This workshop is organized to facilitate the presentation of recent findings via scientific talks and to serve as a iscussion forum for future actions linked to management and policies.
