I am pleased to announce that VP Glenda Humiston has approved funding 17 projects for UC ANR's 2015 Competitive Grants Program, for a total of $3.7 million over 5 years. The awards range from approximately $50,000 to $450,000. This is comparable to past years' awards. UC ANR awarded $4.46 million supporting 21 projects in 2011, $3.8 million supporting 16 projects in 2012, and $3.5 million supporting 15 projects in 2013. After four grant cycles, the Division has approved funding for 69 projects totaling an investment of $15,464,934. We are pleased to announce Dr. Michael Anderson will be joining the ANR Program Council, beginning with the September meeting. Anderson is the Divisional Dean for Agriculture and Natural Resources in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) at UC Riverside. He is an Agricultural Experiment Station faculty member and Chair of the Department of Environmental Sciences. He represents CNAS on Program Council, filling the seat recently vacated by Jodie Holt who has retired. Anderson will bring the CNAS perspective and provide environmental chemistry expertise to the discussions. As UC ANR Vice President Barbara Allen-Diaz completes her successful 30+ year career with the University of California, we want to thank her for her contributions to the Division. For several years, the Division has been guided by our Strategic Vision, of which she was a key architect. In bringing the Strategic Vision to life, she initiated the ANR Competitive Grants Program to target resources at critical issues where policy-relevant impacts could be achieved. She also led the development of a thorough process, involving significant internal and external review and input, to identify critical Cooperative Extension Advisor and Specialist positions and made the bold decision to aggressively rebuild the Cooperative Extension footprint...
We are pleased to announce Carl Winter will be joining ANR Program Council, beginning with the June meeting. Winter is a Cooperative Extension specialist located in the Department of Food Science and Technology at UC Davis. He is filling one of the two at-large seats, succeeding Steve Wright, CE advisor in Tulare and Kings County. Winter will bring a CE specialist perspective and provide food-safety expertise to the discussions. The ANR Program Council advises the Vice President on Divisionwide planning and delivery of programs and develops recommendations for allocation of Division resources.

I am pleased to announce the Letters of Intent (LOIs) that have been selected to move forward and submit full proposals to ANR's Competitive Grants Program. This year we received a total of 117 LOIs, inviting 47 of them to submit a full application. In 2014, ANR conducted a formative assessment of the grants program to evaluate whether the intended goals of the program were being met or if there were plans in place to achieve appropriate outcomes. As a result, applicants this year were required to address strategic initiative priority issue areas to better facilitate the identification and measurement of efforts and impacts.
