At the Gold Country Fairgrounds on May 10th, 4-H youth, parents, and friends all joined together to learn about various animal projects offered within Placer County 4-H. Demonstrations for animal projects ranging from dog and small animals all the way up to steer and swine were present. Youth were able to move through 12 different stations to learn about showmanship for each 4-H animal project present. There was record attendance of 150 youth and parents at Animal Youth Fair.
Andrew Wood of Auburn, CA , an active member in 4-H for nine years, was recently chosen as a State Ambassador for California 4-H. Andrew is the President of the Gold Country 4-H Club in Auburn, as well as a Placer County 4-H All-Star. Beside his present leadership roles at the local club and county levels, Andrew has been the recipient of the 4-H Council Scholarship and the Golden Clover Award from California 4-H for his work in training guide dogs for the blind.

There is additional rain in the forecast in the coming days, which is quite needed. To put into perspective the rainfall amounts for this year. January 2014 the Placer County Weather Station recorded 0.5 inches of rainfall and February 2014 to date is 7.88 inches of rainfall. On January 3, the state conducted the first snow survey for the wet season and found that snowpack water content is 20 percent of the average for this time of the year. Even with the precipitation received and projected rainfall, the Sierra Foothills and California is well below the averages for precipitation and water reservoir supply.

Hello All- For those interested, this is a great upcoming event, on February 22, 2014, highlighting the future of Agriculture. Numerous producers from the local area, multiple agencies, and youth will all be participating in this event at UC's Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center located in Brownsvalley CA. If you have visited the Placer County 4-H website lately, it is quite evident that there has been many recent changes to the website layout. I know that in this modern time, 4-H families are incredibly busy and unable to always attain resources in person from the County Extension Office. Thus, we are revamping the website to help suit the needs of our 4-H’ers spread throughout Placer County to have access to resources and stay connected without leaving their homes as much.
