The Reedley Senior Center is helping seniors put knowledge into practice!
After participating in the UC CalFresh Eat Smart, Live Strong nutrition education series, all participants received the foods they needed to cook healthy meals. Senior Center Coordinator, Carol Martens, partnered with the Reedley Senior Commission, Inc. to provide the foods.
When making the Summer Bounty Salad, participants were given fresh bananas. Lasagna Casserole? No problem! Sauce, pasta and vegetables were distributed to seniors to make their own healthy version at home.

Eating breakfast every day helps to "break the fast" by refueling your body in the morning. If you normally eat dinner around 6 p.m. and then sleep until 6 a.m., that is nearly 12 hours your body has gone without refueling.
Get the fuel you need...don't skip breakfast!
Lincoln elementary preschool students have come up with a breakfast chant to teach us the importance of eating breakfast. Check it out below.
Breakfast
Breakfast, Breakfast, Breakfast, Breakfast (ALL)
What’s the most important meal of the day? (TEACHER)
Breakfast, Breakfast, Breakfast, Breakfast (ALL)
What does breakfast do? (TEACHER)
It wakes up our brain so we can learn at school (ALL)
And our brain helps us to think and to remember (ALL)
And breakfast gives us? (TEACHER)
ENERGY! (ALL)
To get through our busy (TEACHER)
DAY! (ALL)
Thanks for sharing Ms. Ellis! Keep up the great work!

Can you move like an elephant, roar like a lion and shimmy like a penguin? Transitional Kindergarten students at Storey elementary can!
As part of a healthy diet, the 2010 Dietary Guidelines encourage children to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day. This can include sports, walking, running and more. At Storey elementary this includes moving like an elephant!
Enter a story called Bearobics.
You might be wondering is Bearobics about a bear doing aerobics? Of course it is! Well actually, its about a bear AND other animals like elephants, penguins, lions and gorillas getting their exercise.
After hearing the story students got the opportunity to practice their animal movements and get their hearts pumping. It was a "roaring" good time!

Mrs. Moua's class at Ericson Preschool loves MyPlate!
To highlight fruits and vegetables, students selected their favorites from grocery ads, cut them out, and classified them by food group.
This activity builds vocabulary skills, and allows students to sort and become familiar with fruits and vegetables they may not have seen before. Great job Mrs. Moua!
