The Weed Research and Information Center (WeedRIC) has developed three educational on-line videos that are directed towards homeowners and Master Gardeners. These three videos are housed on the wric.ucdavis.edu website under the Quick Links Online Education Program button. There is no cost for their use. The first video focus on weed identification and the resources available to determine the identity of hundreds of weed species. This is a 30 min video that provides an overview of the herbarium and how scientists use keys to identify plants. It then goes into detail on the various interactive identification programs, including the on-line program also housed on the WeedRIC website. The second video describes the principles that are...

When talking about chemical weed control, a lot of different terms are used to describe the chemicals and application techniques being used. Some are terms are pretty straight forward while others are a little more specific or specialized. I thought it might be a good time to run through a few commonly used terms. Feel free to add (via comments) any important terms that I miss and I’ll try to edit them in over time.
Preemergence (or preemergent) herbicides. Herbicides that are applied before the target weed germinates and emerges. Many, but not all, preemergence herbicides have little activity on existing vegetation. Instead, they act on the roots or shoots of newly germinated seeds – often killing the...

According to David Shaw, the chairman of the WSSA Herbicide Resistance Education Committee "When farmers have a better understanding of herbicide resistance and how to manage it, they can adopt proactive management programs that delay or mitigate the evolution of herbicide-resistant weeds".
The five training modules include:

The adage "a picture is worth a thousand words" can apply to pesticide safety, too! When I was at Colorado State University in 2006, Sandra McDonald of Mountain West PEST led an effort to teach pesticide safety through the use of photos.
We took over 900 photos using the fluorescent dye Glo-Germ® illustrating proper and improper pesticide handling. The results of simulated photos speak for themselves:
This photo series illustrates the importance of wearing proper clothing and footwear. Notice the "glowing" areas on the girls legs in the picture on the right.
