Four years later and we are seeing a long slow drought in New South Wales. It is very noticeable that the Eucalyptus are cutting dead the branches with mistletoe on first. Thousands of trees with one dead branch.

If things don't improve they will drop other branches, but the mistletoe goes first. There is obviously some biochemical trigger where the tree knows which branch is using all the water and kills it.
